We rational beings are so called because we're able to think. That’s pretty much what defines us as humans. However, we tend to think too much, and that may be a hell of a problem since while we’re thinking we’re not acting or, at least, most of the times, not doing one of those things properly. Things get worse when we start thinking about time itself, for it is one of the few things we can’t control nor manipulate in an effective way, although some may argue it is our mind that gives actual existence to it…
We spend most of our precious time thinking about what we didn’t do in the past, what we won’t do in the future, what we didn’t have before, what we won’t get next… And, as if that wasn’t enough of a problem, we just keep on forgetting about the present, which, as the name itself says, is basically the greatest gift we’ll ever have, and, as a matter of fact, the only thing we really own.
If you’re reading this it means you’re breathing, and, well… You’ve probably been breathing for the last few decades but how many times have you been grateful for that? It basically means you’re alive and that is actually the only necessary condition to live life in all its fullness, and man… that’s pretty much what most of us strive for, right?
If you’re reading this, it means you’re able to see, and that you’re living the dream of a lifetime of the ones that will never watch a sunset, look into their loved ones’ eyes and know their thoughts just by doing so, nor see a shooting star no matter how long they wait for it...
If you’re also able to hear and speak, you may consider yourself more fortunate than many that will never be capable of saying “I love you”, nor “I miss you”, nor “I’m sorry”... Not out loud at least... You might even think you’re luckier than those who will never listen to their favorite song for they’ll probably never have one...
If you’re able to focus your attention on the bullshit I’m writing and have the choice not to, you should be grateful, for there’s a great bunch of people that would give anything to be able to make a choice as simple as that, and so many others that don’t even notice they’re not able to do so…
If you have both legs and arms and you can move them as you wish, you are living the miracle of the ones that will not be able to dance at their wedding as they’ve always dreamed of nor hug their children as “every other parent does”…
If you don’t, but you do have air in your lungs and will in your heart, you’ve still got everything you need to do whatever you set up to , and NOW is the only moment you can be certain you’ll have to make that happen.
Right now you can do anything you want to. You may need to add a little creativity, but that only makes it all even worthier, right?!
If you want to make a difference, you’d better start NOW because this is the only moment you can be sure you’ll be able to do it, for later may be just too late… And if you don’t make the difference you can make in the world, no one will ever do it the way you would have and that difference may be missed forever.
“So that each day counts!”
